If you don't know, I suggest you look into the dictionary. "Anyway" Leena continued, "after great persuasion, the warden told her that a couple of years ago a girl called Nisha, who was an ace student at Physics, used to occupy that room and that on a full moon night, she had lost her Physics text book. That night her dead body was found in that room and the walls were covered completely with the word 'Physics' written all over them with blood-" "Leena?" this time, it was Morticia who had interrupted Leena, "are you trying to tell us a scary story?" Leena raised an eyebrow in the light of the torch. "Because it's really NOT scary…" Leena just shook her head and continued. "The warden told Sheetal that people who lived in that room after Nisha, had abandoned the room because they claimed that her spirit still haunted the room. And so they had decided that the room would be permanently locked. "But Sheetal did not believe in spirits and so after some more persuasion, the hostel warden agreed to give her the room. For the next few weeks, Sheetal's life was completely normal and she forgot all about Nisha. But on a full moon night, the lights went off. Sheetal lit a candle. A few minutes later there was a knock on the door. Knock-knock! Knock-knock! Sheetal was scared. 'Who is it?' No one replied. There was another knock on the door. 'Who is it?' Again there was no answer. When she opened the door, she saw a girl standing in front of her. The face of the girl standing outside could not be seen from the light of the candle. The girl said 'Do you have a Physics text-book?' Sheetal nodded and handed the girl the text-book. 'Are-are you N-Nisha?' Sheetal asked the girl suddenly. The girl outside took a step forward. Now the light from the candle reached the girl's face and Sheetal could see her face. And then…" Leena was silent. By then, Jeena had frozen out of fear and Morticia was breathing very slowly; both waiting for Leena to break the silence with shockingly eerie words…but they kept waiting. Finally Jeena managed to stammer "L-Lee-Leena?" Leena's face stared back at her silently. "Leena?" There was still no reply. "Jeena?" Morticia said reaching out to grab hold of her arm. "Morticia? Oh thank God you're there! What is up with Leena?" Jeena could feel that Morticia was shivering too as both of them felt a chill run through their spines. "Leena stop playing your stupid tricks…"Morticia said nervously. But Leena still did not respond. Jeena gasped. "What?" Morticia asked sharply. "The clock…the second's hand isn't working." Morticia looked at it for a while and then said, "When did you last change the batteries?" "A long time ago." Jeena replied as she noticed the absurd stillness in the air. Just then Morticia exclaimed using a word that I would rather not have in print. Jeena's gaze followed to where Morticia was pointing…and stayed at where it landed. Jeena exclaimed using the same word. Morticia was pointing at the tap in the bathroom-the door of which was slightly ajar. A drop was floating midair. The two looked at each other and understood that they were thinking the same thing…it was either that, or the two of them had completely gone mad. Were they really going mad? OR HAD TIME ACTUALLY STOPPED? |
