"Yes," he said, "I need to talk to you…" "But-" "Please…" he said. And that was all it took to convince Morticia to take a quick bath, dress as best as she could and sneak out of the house down to the park right next to her house. It was an enormous park with patches of huge trees at every fifty meters. Morticia walked through the park gates as fast as she could; while she was walking on the pathway she realized that they had not decided where exactly in the park they would meet. As she was thinking of how foolish she was for not having asked him, she almost crashed into someone. She remembered the boy with the purple eyes and looked up immediately, but instead of the purple, scanning eyes of that boy, she saw the beautiful brown kind eyes of Zarif. "Hi" he said, smiling at her. "Hi…" Morticia was out of breath. And she was sure that it was not because of the exercise. There was silence between them for a moment, which seemed like ages to Morticia. It was broken by Zarif. "You… want to walk?" She nodded and they started walking, slowly… "So…" Morticia said, "What did you want to say" her heart was beating faster than it was beating when she was talking to him over the phone. This was, after all, the first time she had sneaked out of the house without telling anyone, or the first time she had been anywhere outside school with a boy; if you don't count the various parties she was forced to attend where she had to talk to the sons of her Dad's friends. She saw Zarif's face tense. He looked down at the fallen leaves. Morticia remembered her embarrassing dream and blushed. Then he looked up at her, straight at her eyes. Morticia stopped breathing as the colour in her cheeks rose. "Remember that day I'd said that I loved someone?" Morticia nodded. Oh. My. God. "I know that we've just met and that we hardly know each other; and I know that it's going to be hard for you to believe me…" I do not know how to describe what Morticia was feeling at that moment because she was feeling so many things all together. But mostly she felt anxious, anxious to know what Zarif Hussain was trying to say. "I…" he said, "I…I love you." If there was anything such as time coming to a halt then Morticia was sure that it was this. Morticia did not see the people walking by them, she did not feel the cold breeze that blew by and she did not hear anything except the sound of music that was playing in her ears. It was the theme music of her favourite romantic movie ever, Dil Wale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge. Zarif was Shahrukh Khan and she was Kajol… She would have jumped and hugged Zarif there and then if it hadn't been for someone who had just approached the two of them with a confused and surprised expression on her face. |
