A Little Something

I smiled and smiled and smiled...what else could I do? How are you supposed to stop smiling when Akash Banerjee, the schools handsomest eleventh grader, is standing there on the stage going on and on about God knows what?

"Hey Chub!" Aditya, my best friend said breaking into my fantasy, coming and sitting next to me in the school auditorium during the ninth grade assembly.

"What?" I asked him. My name is not Chub, it's Chhavi Bhatra. Aditya insists on calling me Chub for God knows what reason.

"Hi" Maya, Aditya's girlfriend said, coming and sitting next to him. How come he gets to have a girlfriend and I don't get to have a boyfriend?

Anyway, the next day when we were sitting in the maths class Maya was passing notes to Aditya through me. I didn't even bother looking into them. I already they contained 'I love you's and silly names like Apple Pie. Seriously, Apple Pie???

There was a knock on the door. Someone had called for me. I went outside to see………………….Akash!!!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

"Er…hi" I said trying hard to sound casual.

"Hi." Akash said casually. "Malini ma'am sent me to inform you about the new pamphlet…"

I was the head of the interact club and this particular interaction was the best I had ever had.

Deep sigh…

So me and Akash met every alternate evening for the new pamphlet and how it should come out.

And guess what, the next week he asked me out!!!!!!!!!!

To the stationary shop - to buy sktchpens.

Hey! It is still going out!

He was a nice guy; perfect actually. Okay, so I had the hgest crush on him - and Aditya would not stop teasing me about him.

Why can't he be busy with HIS girlfriend anyway? Huh?

The next day I got news that Aditya had broken up with Maya. I wont say that it was bad news. To tell you the truth, I was kind of happy. Aditya wasn't upset either, but Maya was. She claimed that she LOVED him…??? Yes, and that was why, at some party that evening she got herself a boyfriend.

Honestly, why do I even care?

Well, actually, I got an answer to why I had to care. The new boyfriend was Akash.

Aw!

Talk about harsh luck!

That night Aditya and me were sitting in the basketball court of our locality and sulking. I was anyway.

And guess what; like as if the whole Akash incident wasn't enough, Aditya got down to his knees and said "I love you."

Okay……

I stopped breathing. I thought of all the time that we had spent together…aw jeez…

"W-what?"

He then got to his feet and started laughing.

"MORON!" I screamed.

That day I realized something…real love isn't about ; well, what it is made out to be about. It's about friendship; just

like SRK said in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

So, in a way, he did love me; and I loved him too; as a friend…

Okay; well, just a little more than a friend; because after that he bent down to my face, looked me in the eye and said "I'm

serious"…..and then-he he he……..just like in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai!
